DearMiles)iOS App

Privacy Policy
Effective October 1, 2026 · Applies to the DearMiles (两地) iOS app
In short: we do not collect your personal data. DearMiles has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and no servers of our own.
DearMiles is developed and operated by Hangzhou Runqi Science & Technology Co., Ltd. ("we"). This policy explains what information the app handles, where it is processed, and how you can manage and delete it.
What we do not collect
We do not collect, sell or share your name, contact details, location, photos, stories, device identifiers or usage, and we do not link your data across apps or websites for tracking. The app contains no advertising, analytics or other third-party SDKs.
Content stored on your device
Your stories are stored in the app's private storage on your iPhone. This includes the names and coordinates of both places, place nicknames, dates, notes, template and layout settings, the photos you choose, the time and city recorded when a place came from your location or a photo, saved places, the place you mark as home, and preferences such as the distance unit. If you use Photo footprints, it also includes the rough places summarized from your photo library and their names. We cannot access any of it.
Location
- The app asks for "While Using the App" location access only when you tap to use your current location. It reads your position once, at about 1 km accuracy, and never tracks you in the background.
- The distance between two places is calculated on your device. To show a city name, the coordinate is sent to Apple's geocoding service.
- You can decline location access and still search for places or pick them on the map.
- In "Miss you", the other person's place is something you choose. The app never obtains or tracks anyone else's location.
Place search and maps
Place search, maps, map snapshots and place names are provided by Apple Maps (MapKit). Your search terms and the map areas you view are sent to Apple to return results, under the Apple Privacy Policy. We never receive these requests.
Photos
- When you make a poster, the app uses the system photo picker, so it can read only the photos you select.
- When you choose Take a photo here in Live stamp, the app asks for camera access and uses it only to take that one photo. Like a selected photo, it is resized, re-encoded and kept in your story; it is not saved to your photo library and contains no GPS location.
- Selected photos are resized (2880 px on the long edge at most) and re-encoded before they are saved. The saved copy does not contain the original capture metadata or GPS location.
- If you keep location information in the photo picker, the app reads where the photo was taken, rounds it to about 1 km, and asks Apple's geocoding service for the city name to suggest a place. You can change or remove it at any time.
- When you save a poster, the app asks only for permission to add photos and writes only the poster you export.
- Photo footprints is optional. It is used only after you tap Read in Settings → Photo footprints and allow photo library access. On your device it reads where and when each photo in your own library was taken (photos others shared in shared albums are left out), groups them by place and year into rough locations accurate to about 1 km, and asks Apple's geocoding service for the city and country or region names. Photo contents are never read. The summary and place names stay on this device: they are not uploaded, synced to iCloud or included in device backups. You can clear them together on the same page at any time, or turn off photo access in Settings.
iCloud sync (optional)
- Sync is off by default. When you turn it on in Settings → iCloud sync, your stories, photos, saved places and distance unit are stored in the CloudKit private database of your own iCloud account and count toward your iCloud storage. Apple stores and protects this data. We cannot see or access it.
- To keep one iCloud account's stories out of another, the app keeps a SHA-256 digest of your iCloud user identifier on your device, used only to detect an account change.
- To merge edits from several devices safely, sync temporarily keeps a history of changes. Versions replaced more than 30 days ago, and photos no story uses any more, are removed automatically from iCloud and your device; deleted stories are cleared together with their history after 30 days. Sync history is not a backup for restoring old versions.
- If you are signed out of iCloud, offline or out of iCloud storage, your stories remain on your device.
Purchases
DearMiles Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple. We never receive your payment information. The app verifies transactions on your device with Apple's StoreKit to determine whether Pro is unlocked.
Sharing and export
A poster is saved to Photos or sent through the system share sheet only when you choose to. Recipients and other apps handle shared images under their own terms.
Crash reports
The app itself does not collect crash or usage data. If you choose "Share with App Developers" in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may provide us with aggregated crash reports and usage statistics that do not identify you, which we use to fix problems. You can turn this off at any time.
Children
DearMiles is suitable for all ages. We do not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Retention and deletion
- On your device: delete stories from your story list and places from Settings → Saved places. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your device.
- iCloud: with sync on, deletions you make in the app sync to your other devices on the same iCloud account. Turning sync off or deleting the app does not remove iCloud data. To remove all cloud data, open Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, find DearMiles and delete its data.
- Images you saved to Photos or shared are not affected. Delete them where they are stored.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, you can view, correct and delete your information directly in the app or in iCloud settings. For any privacy question, contact us and we will reply within 15 business days.
Changes to this policy
If the way the app handles information changes, we will update this page and its effective date, and point out significant changes in the app's release notes.
